Some adventures in yarn dyeing. Plunked the cake in the blue dye the other day, it came out.... Mostly white. I rewound it the opposite direction and put it in the purple - which was more concentrated than the blue. I could have left it in longer but I was impatient, so I took it out before the dye was exhausted and put a new skein in. So I got this fun dark speckled thing, and a pretty lilac colour. #yarn#yarndyeing#fiberart
❓Question to dyers! ❓I've seen a lot of photos where the yarn is in what looks like large roasting pans, but are used on the stove top. What types of pans are the best, and can they be used on a gas stove? Or do they go in the oven? There's so much conflicting information out there, and I'm really tired right now so I'm just confusing myself. I know stainless steel is best, but I don't know if there's a particular type of pan that's best. I want to have the yarn lay straight instead of curved like they'd be in my big pots.
I'm really not sure if this is going to work like I hope, but I'm going to try it anyway. I've portioned this into four hanks, and left it connected. It's not an even distribution as I wanted some longer. I have another hank that's been portioned into three sections, and I'm leaving the other three hanks as they are. Those three will be variegated the usual way, but I wanted done with chunks of colour.
This beautiful DK Pima cotton yarn is going to be my first foray into dyeing yarn! I'm super excited and I've been busy swatting up on all of the science and I can't wait to get stuck in.

Cold wind today which gave me a nice excuse to stay indoors and do a little dyeing. An experiment I've taken on to see if I can transform Ada the alpacas rather dull beige wool into something a bit more colorful. Gave me good use of the scaffolding too 😉
My dye order came in today!! Now if you ask me what colors i have i can say, "ALL OF THEM!" I AM GOING TO DYE ALL THE YARNS :D. Each one is a different color and they range from white to black, from pastel to fluorescent, from neutral to POP. I AM SO HAPPY!
THANK YOU everyone who is following me through this #yarndyeing adventure I am taking. I don't want to lose momentum, however I am leaving tomorrow for Texas and so things will be put on hold for a very short time. REMINDER: when I get back there will be new bases being dyed (merino/cashmere/nylon and merino singles WITH stellina!!) as well as an awesome GIVEAWAY!! So please stay tuned and go like my Etsy page if you haven't already. I am working on different ways other than selling on Etsy but because I am so new to this, things are a bit slow. Once again, thank you for following me and checking out what I have to offer!! ❤️❤️❤️
